Schools Rugby Weekend Preview & Predictions: Last weekend before the big 7s kick off

This weekend is the final weekend of fifteen-a-side fixtures before the big 7s tournaments begin next weekend, and there are certainly some huge fixtures to keep us going until then!

There is also U18 Academy Premiership action and the Northern Lambs v Southern Lambs, the final trial before the National XV is selected, making this an excellent weekend of U18 rugby – assuming, of course, that the weather manages to hold out.

One of the biggest games of the weekend is QEGS Wakefield v RGS High Wycombe, two huge figures on the schools rugby circuit, and schools cup legends. It ought to be a fascinating fixture, and should provide some insight ahead of some big cup games next week.

Another massive fixture sees Kirkham Grammar School host St Benedict’s in a rearranged fixture after the hastily arranged game at the end of last term was moved after some controversy at the end of the Daily Mail Trophy – expect Kirkham to be keen to play well in this one.

Millfield are up against Welsh opposition for the second time in a week, and after a midweek loss to Coleg y Cymoedd they will be keen to return to winning ways against Welsh Academicals.

Campion v Brighton College ought to have plenty of spice, while John Fisher will be hoping to bounce back after last week’s loss to Warwick when they face Tiffin. Crossley Heath meanwhile host Manchester Grammar.

King’s Macclesfield will be looking to continue their good form with a win over Queen Ethelburga’s, while London Oratory v Wallington County Grammar also looks a good game, as does Judd v Dartford Grammar.

Whilst there will continue to be some Saturday fixtures through the rest of the term, the focus will switch towards 7s tournaments on Sunday’s, making this a huge weekend for sides to make a lasting statement.
