School 7s: Ampleforth College 7s draw announced

The draw for the Ampleforth College 7s on Wednesday 2nd March has been made.

2015 Champions Sedbergh are in Group A, where they will face Bristol Grammar School, Giggleswick, and Ilkley Grammar School.

There are four groups of four, and the winners and second placed sides in each group all go into the quarter finals of the Cup, with the bottom two in each group starting the Plate quarter finals.

2013 HSBC Rosslyn Park National Schools 7s finalists, Woodhouse Grove, are in Group B along with Pocklington, Ripon Grammar School, and Durham, who were runners up in the Plate last year.

Unfortunately neither the Plate holders, RGS Newcastle, or the Cup runners-up, Kirkham Grammar School are in attendance this year. Barnard Castle are though, and they are drawn in Group C alongside Ashville College, St Ambrose College, and a strong St Peter’s York side.

The hosts, Ampleforth College, are in Group D, which looks a tricky group. Yarm and Hymers College will pose a challenge, while the outstanding QEGS Wakefield will likely be favourites.

With Rosslyn Park just two weeks after this competition, it is sure to be seen as a key tournament by every school, and a big indicator of form.
