School 7s: High quality Durham 7s draw announced

The draw for the 2016 Durham 7s on Saturday 27th February has been made.

 

Hosts Durham are in Group A alongside the 2015 Plate winners, Woodhouse Grove. They are joined in that group by Dame Allan’s, Ripon Grammar School, and Scottish side Dundee High School, for whom Andy Nicol is a former player.

 

The 2015 Champions were Sedbergh, who beat Kirkham Grammar School 19-12 in the final. They find themselves in Group D alongside another Scottish side, Dollar Academy, the former school of John Barclay, as well as Mount St Mary’s College, Newcastle School for Boys, and a very good St Peter’s York side.

 

Kirkham meanwhile are in Group B, where they will face a tricky Bradford Grammar side, one of the most famous rugby schools around, Ampleforth College as well as Yarm and King’s Priory, Tynemouth.

 

The 2015 Plate runners up were RGS Newcastle, they also won the Bain Cup in 2013, they face a very tricky group that includes Birkdale, Hymers College, King’s Macclesfield, and the 2014 Champions, QEGS Wakefield.

 

The top two sides from each group go into the semi finals of the main competition, the Bain Cup, while third and fourth placed side go into the Plate semi finals.
