School 7s: North of England 7s draw announced

The draw for the 2016 Quilter Cheviot North of England Invitation School 7s on Sunday 6th March has been made.

 

2015 Champions Kirkham Grammar School are drawn in Group A alongside Manchester Grammar, Ellesemere College, St Ambrose College, and Princethorpe College.

 

Group B plays host to the 2014 champions, Woodhouse Grove. They are drawn with Caldy Grange, Hereford Cathedral, St Anselm’s, and Giggleswick.

 

RGS Newcastle finished as runners-up last year, they find themselves in a very tricky Group C, with Barnard Castle, Denstone College, Sandbach, and QES Kirkby for company.

 

Hymers College have finished as runners up four times in the last eight years, they will face Adams Grammar, Bishop Vesey’s, Rydal Penrhos, and King’s Worcester.

 

The 1997 champions were Durham, they are in a highly competitive Group E, which features King’s Macclesfield, Wirral Grammar, Birkenhead, and Merchant Taylors’.

 

Sedbergh are the most successful side in the history of the competition, with their last title coming in 2013, the second in a back to back effort. They also won the plate in 2014. They are drawn in Group F, where Ampleforth College, Altrincham Grammar, Pocklington, and Austin Friars all compete.

 

The first of the two Scottish representatives, Loretto, are in Group G, where Queen Ethelburga’s, AKS Lytham, Dame Allan’s, and Lymm High School will keep them company.

 

The second Scottish side, Merchiston Castle, are in Group H, where Worksop College, Mount St Mary’s, Trent College, and Wilmslow High School all compete.

 

The top side from each group will progress to the Bowring Trophy quarter finals, whilst the runners up will each progress to the Boodle and Dunthorne Salver Plate quarter finals.
