School 7s: West of England 7s in Taunton set to shine on huge day of school 7s

On a busy day of 7s on Sunday, the West of England 7s is among the top billed tournaments to be taking place.

Jointly hosted by Taunton School, King’s College Taunton, and Queen’s College Taunton, the tournament brings together fifteen top schools as the 7s season really kicks into gear.

The fifteen schools are split into three groups of five, with the winner of each group progressing to the Cup semi finals, along with the best second place side.

The remaining two second place sides progress to the Plate semi finals, along with the top two third place sides.

King’s College reached the final last year, missing out 26-5 to Kingswood. Indeed King’s College’s record in the tournament is superb, reaching the final in 2015 and 2012, and winning it 26-14 against Millfield in 2013. The tournament was cancelled in 2014.

This year King’s are dawn in Group B, which looks like a tough one. They will face QEH, King’s Bruton, Bristol Grammar, and a very good Beechen Cliff side.

Last year’s Champions, Kingswood, are in Group A alongside one of the co-hosts, Taunton School, as well as last year’s Plate winners, Clifton College. Wellington School and Colston’s complete Group A.

Group C meanwhile features the third co-host, Queen’s College Taunton, and they are joined by the excellent Bryanston, as well as Prior Park College, Truro School, and Millfield’s 2nd VII.

With Rosslyn Park looming ever closer, this is sure to be a highly competitive afternoon of rugby in Somerset.
