A Felsted School side put in a dominant display as they easily claimed this year’s Reeds Sevens School Cup.
The Essex outfit emphatically beat Seaford College 38-10 in what was a performance seen consistently throughout the tournament.
Felsted captain, Matthew Lumb said: “It feels amazing winning here today. We’ve been to this tournament twice before, played in the final and not come away with the win, so to win today feels really good.
“We came to this tournament believing in ourselves, we thought we could win it and we did. So I’m very proud of everyone.”
Of a group also including Hurstpierpoint and Kent College, Felsted emerged as winners without much of a struggle, not winning a game by less than three scores.
This trend continued into the final as they swept away St Johns Leatherhead in the playoffs 40-5, and then took the lead and never looked back against a previously impressive Seaford team in the final.
The tournament, in its fourth year, also played host to New Hall, Shiplake, Royal Hospital, Wisbech, Seaford, Eltham and Eastbourne.
Reeds enjoyed their own moment of success as they won a close plate final against local rivals St Johns Leatherhead 29-20.
The Trophy final saw Royal Hospital come out on top against Shiplake 24-12, and Hurstpierpoint beat Eastbourne 27-10 in the Bowl final.
Reeds coach, Anthony Talbot, who organised the event said: “The quality of rugby from all the schools that came today showed that year on year the standard has improved. Felsted were exceptional today.
“It’s about the fundamentals of the game. Competitive Sevens tournaments like these are great as they prepare the boys for the nationals and the major events of the year.”
Today’s commanding performances from Felsted showed that they may be more than prepared for the rest of the 2016 Sevens season, if not their next tournament.
