School 7s: Middlesex 7s preview – last chance to shine before Rosslyn Park

The Middlesex School 7s takes place tomorrow, the last 7s tournament before the HSBC National School 7s at Rosslyn Park.

Sixteen teams will compete for the title, drawn into four groups of four. The top two sides in each group will qualify for the Cup quarter finals, with the bottom two going into the Plate quarter finals.

Harrow beat John Fisher in last year’s final, Fisher do not return this year, but Harrow do. They are the star attraction in group B alongside London Oratory, Norwich, and UCS.

The hosts are St Benedict’s, and they are drawn in Group D alongside Gordon’s, Glyn, and a very strong Feslted side, whose England U18 prop, Ehren Painter, has just had an Academy contract with Northampton Saints confirmed for next year.

Hampton are in Group C alongside St Benedict’s second string, Gunnersbury, and last year’s Plate runners up, St Pauls, who will likely be a big threat this year.

The Plate winners last year were RGS High Wycombe, they head Group A, which includes Tiffin, Wallington County Grammar, and, most likely, Hampton’s second string side, who have proven their quality many times already this 7s season.
