HSBC Rosslyn Park National Schools 7s: Day 1 Review, Day 2 Preview

Tuesday at the HSBC Rosslyn Park National School 7s sees the quarter finals, semi finals, and finals of the Junior and Prep School tournaments, as well as the start of the Colts tournament.

Dulwich College and Whitgift reached last year’s Junior final, with Dulwich College taking the spoils, but both were knocked out in the group stages this year.

That means that we will have a new name on the trophy this year, from the eight quarter finalists.

There is plenty of Welsh interest, Glantaf, Aberdare, and Y Pant all made it through. Glantaf play a very good King’s Macclesfield side.

The winner of that will play either Bishop’s Stortford or QEGS Wakefield, who could be in for a stunning week as a school, what with their U18 NatWest Cup final too.

Aberdare face St Benedict’s, with the winner of that playing either Wimbledon College or Y Pant.

Over in the Prep tournament, last year’s winners, Caldicott, remain on course to retain their title. They had a hugely successful day yesterday, and are in a quarter final pool with Westbourne House, and the highly impressive Dubai College.

The Prep tournament has three quarter final pools, with the winners and the best second placed side reaching the semi finals, which are a standard knockout.

Millfield Pre, Sherborne Prep, and St Olave’s all meet in the second quarter final pool, with Bromsgrove, Sedbergh, and Shrewsbury all in the third Pool. Bromsgrove U18 and Sedbergh U15 are also very much in the hunt for silverware this year, they travel to Twickenham tomorrow for their respective NatWest Cup finals.

Champions Reigate Grammar School face St Ambrose College, Howard of Effingham, RGS Worcester, and Caerleon Comprehensive in their Group, while their opponents in last year’s final, Eton College, face Dyffryn Aman, Wisbech Grammar, Llangynwyd, and Pocklington in their group.
