RGS High Wcyombe claimed the 2016 Sedbergh 10s title yesterday.

The famous tournament was back on Sedbergh soil this year after a brief relocation to Worcester Warriors’ Sixways Stadium. Featuring many of the sides who were heavily involved at Rosslyn Park during the preceeding week, the tournament always has the feel of a good end of season blow out for all of those involved.

For RGS, it was the perfect end to the season as they went through the competition unbeaten, beating RGS Lancaster, Bristol Grammar School, KES Bath, Abingdon, and hosts Sedbergh to claim a maximum five from five in their Group.

Kirkham Grammar School meanwhile topped Group B ahead of Brighton College, Millfield, QEGS Wakefield, the NatWest Cup finalists, Brighton College, Malvern College, and Stamford. The quality of sides in both groups only serving to prove just how tough a competition this is.

That left Kirkham facing Sedbergh in one semi final, a grand old battle between these two dominant sides of the region in the last few years, while in the other RGS High Wycombe faced Brighton College.

RGS and Sedbergh picked up the victories there to progress to the final, where Sedbergh were buoyed by a home crowd, but RGS arrived hopefully, having beaten their hosts in the group.

It turned out to be a fascinatingly close final, with RGS just running out as 15-14 winners, capping a fine season.

Brighton College’s Kyran Bungaroo meanwhile picked up the player of the tournament award.
