U18 5 Nations Festival: Botham and Penny start for Wales, Scotland & Ireland yet to name teams

BECOME A PATRON

Wales U18 have named their side for this evening’s clash with Italy U18 in the latest of the U18 5 Nations Festival Fixtures at 19.30.

The game is preceded by the Scotland U18 v Ireland U18 fixture as part of a double header at Caerphilly.

Wales have made ten changes from their side that beat Scotland 31-30 in their opener, with lock Will Griffiths, fly half Ben Jones, and inside centre Ben Thomas retaining their places. Corey Baldwin meanwhile switches from outside centre to right wing, while Sedbergh’s Jim Botham moves from openside to blindside flanker.

Botham is joined by another Exile in the form of full back Carwyn Penny of Clifton College, who comes in for his first start of the tournament. Millfield’s Rhys Davies and Hartpury College’s Morgan Morris are on the bench.

Speaking ahead of the game, Wales u18 Head Coach Geraint Lewis said:

“We’ve kept some key individuals in place but brought in some new faces to try some new combinations, the changes mean every player in the squad will have started in the first two games and have a chance to stake a claim for the final game against England on April 6.”

“Will Jones comes in as captain but he has a lot of leadership experience in age grade rugby. We know Italy will provide a different type of opposition than Scotland but are confident of continuing the momentum gained in our encouraging opening performance.”

Scotland and Ireland are yet to name their sides for their 17.15 kick off.
