Italy U17 and Wales RGC ended the Conwy U16 International Festival unbeaten after winning their third and final fixtures on Saturday, the final day of the Festival.

Wales RGC beat Scotland Red 20-12, condemning the young Scots to a third defeat from three, while Italy U17 beat France East in a very physical contest by a narrow 15-12 margin.

Wales Academicals returned to winning ways after a tough midweek defeat to Italy, beating Scotland Blue 26-18, meaning that both Scottish sides ended the week without victory.

France West also picked up a second victory of the week, beating Italy U17 A 14-7 to make it two wins from their three games, leaving the Italian second string with one win from three.

Five Rydal Penrhos pupils represented the unbeaten Wales RGC side through the tournament, with the school’s Director of Sport, Allen Boyd, saying:

“They all deserve enormous credit for the way they performed and conducted themselves throughout the festival, and they can be very proud of their efforts. Congratulations to them and to RGC for a fine tournament, one that Rydal Penrhos was very proud to be involved in.”

Meanwhile Tegid Phillips, said:

“What a week of rugby these youngsters have provided. For some, this Festival may well be the highlight of their rugby careers. Undoubtedly, for some others it will be a stepping stone onto Under 20 and full international honours. Whatever their future, all the players have been a credit to their country and themselves.”

Fifteen Rugby has compiled an unofficial table, below, from the week’s results. It sees Italy U17 on top, ahead of Wales RGC on points difference after the two finished unbeaten for the week.

France U16 West’s superior points difference sees them just ahead of Wales Academicals, who are in fourth, while France East are in fifth ahead of Italy U17 A.

The two Scottish sides sit at the foot of the table, Scotland Blue just ahead of Scotland Red thanks to a superior points difference.
