London Floodlit 7s: Future stars set to shine at Rosslyn Park

The 2016 London Floodlit 7s take place at Rosslyn Park FC on Thursday 5th May.

The famous 7s tournament, now in its 41st year, has become a favourite on the calendar. Not only is it a great evening of entertainment, it also showcases some outstanding rugby and superb players.

It is known for attracting both top professional players and rising stars. Who can forget 2014, where Tom Whiteley, fresh from being named the HSBC Rosslyn Park National School 7s player of the tournament, was then named player of the tournament starring for Saracens on his debut – whilst still a schoolboy!

Whiteley could well feature this year for Rosslyn Park, with whom he is on dual registration with Saracens.

The men from North London will not be there this year, but from the Aviva Premiership Wasps, Harlequins, Worcester Warriors, and Harlequins will all be in attendance, along with the Richmond, recently promoted to the Championship, and their fellow National 1 sides Esher, Loughborough Univeristy, and of course Rosslyn Park.

The Army are also in attendance, along with three invitational side, The Rambling Jesters, the Reggae Crocs, whose aim is to ‘identify and develop potential Jamaican rugby national team players based in the UK’, and a charity side, SKRUM Smugglers, who will be representing SKRUM, who ‘use rugby to help reverse the trend in HIV/AIDS infection’.

The tournament beings at 17.00, with London Irish taking on Richmond in Pool A, Rambling Jesters are the third team in that Pool. Next up at 17.20 are Pool B’s Harlequins and Esher, both of whom will later play The Army.

Pool C sees Worcester Warriors alongside SKRUM Smugglers and Loughborough University, while host side Rosslyn Park are in Pool D along with Wasps and Reggae Crocs.

The tournament concludes with the Final at 22.20.
