The Daily Mail Trophy got underway for most schools this weekend, with Wellington College beginning their defence, looking for three titles in a row.
Much like the first Match of the Day of the football season, we thought we would take a quick look at the top of the table, just for the fun of it, even though it tells us little at this stage.
Just two of last year’s Top 10 are in the top ten after the opening weekend of the season. Title holders Wellington College are already high up the ranks after an excellent 26-0 win over Dulwich College. They sit second in the table for the moment.
Bedford are also in the Top 10, they lie in fifth place after putting nearly fifty points past Uppingham on Saturday, they ended up in third last year and will be looking to go even better this year.
Top of the pile at the moment are Epsom College after they blasted past St Paul’s 41-0, a St Paul’s side, remember, who finished in the top 10 last year. Wilmslow High School are in third after putting over fifty past the NatWest Vase runners-up, St Ambrose College.
Schools Rugby legends Barnard Castle are in 6th after their big win again Yarm, while Cheltenham College’s superb triumph over Malvern College puts them in 7th place.
A strong win for Haileybury over Bedford Modern sees them slot into eighth position, with Ellesmere College in 9th following their 20-11 win away at Old Swinford Hospital.
The final place in the Top 10 goes to RGS High Wycombe, who beat Stowe 13-3. They are the only side in the Top 10 not to have claimed the maximum 5 league points in the opening round.
