Old boys from around the country gathered at Felsted School on Sunday for the Sparkle Malawi 7s.

The tournament was in aid of the Charity Sparkle Malawi, founded by Old Felstedian Sarah Brook, which runs community based projects in Malawi and is looking after over 200 orphans and vulnerable children in the country.

The likes of Cranleigh, Tonbridge, Felsted, Oakham, Royal Hospital School, and Frmlingham were among the list of old boys sides that entered, among others, and helped to produce what was an excellent day of rugby.

Royal Hospital School claimed the spoils with a superb performance in the final that saw them beat the much fancied Cranleigh old boys side 14-12 thanks to a pair of excellent tries.

Their side ranged from 18-29 years old, and in the process displaying exactly what the tournament had hoped for, bringing a range of old boys from a range of ages together.

Speaking to the Royal Hospital School protagonists there was a bit of edge in that final for them too, one of their youngest members was George Butt, who captained the school in the 2014/15 season, where the lost of Cranleigh in the semi finals of the Plate in the Festival at the HSBC Rosslyn Park National School 7s. This game meant something.

Of course this was about more than just rugby and more than brining together friends, old and new, it was about raising money and awareness for the Sparkle Malawi Charity. With a big a excitable crowd on Sunday, that was certainly the case.

It did not hurt that the rugby was pretty good too!
