Daily Mail Trophy Table: Top 10, Week 2

Following the second week of play in the schools rugby season, the Daily Mail Trophy table has had a little bit of a shake up.

Epsom College and back to back champions Wellington College remain in first and second respectively after beating Dulwich College and Tonbridge. However Bedford, the Champions Trophy holders, have jumped from fifth to third after a brilliant victory over another of last year’s star teams, the NatWest Cup champions, Bromsgrove.

Harrow played their first game of the Trophy on Saturday and it has propelled them straight into fourth, thanks to a stunning 47-0 win over one of last year’s top sides, Oundle.

Blundell’s drop a place from fourth to fifth despite a stunning 67-0 victory over Colston’s on Saturday. That is because of Colston’s relatively lowly finishing position last year, therefore giving Blundell’s a low points bonus for fulfilling the fixture.

St Peter’s Gloucester are another side to have played their first Trophy game this weekend and to shoot straight into the top 10, they beat King’s Worcester 32-14 to secure sixth place for the time being.

Sedbergh have been the busiest side of the lot, having played three games in a week, and they jump into seventh place from outside the top 10 having beaten Marlborough College on Wednesday and RGS Newcastle 36-15 on Saturday.

Wilmslow High School slip from third in the table to eighth despite a brilliant 43-15 win over Altrincham Grammar School as that game was not a Daily Mail Trophy fixture. Barnard Castle also stay in the top 10, they beat Dame Allan’s 40-7 on Friday evening but slip from 6th to 9th because of Dame Allan’s low ranking.

Cheltenham College round off the top 10, they too were unfortunate to win but slide down the table, from seventh to tenth, following a 25-17 victory over Marlborough College.

RGS High Wycombe were in tenth last week but slide to 44th following defeat to Millfield. It was a similar slide for Ellesmere College, who suffered a really tough loss to Clifton College, dropping from ninth to 40th.

The only other side from the Top 10 to drop out are Haileybury, though they remain within touching distance in 11th following their 15-10 win over Felsted at the weekend.
