Top 5 School Teams of the Weekend

The first weekend following half term produced some stunning schools rugby encounters.

A brilliant weekend of rugby like that makes choosing our Top 5 School Teams of the Weekend a challenge, but a fun challenge, for sure.

Top 5

Canford

Canford could have been forgiven for having their eye slightly off the ball on Saturday given the looming Champions Trophy quarter final against Bedford just three days away. They faced a Marlborough College side that they were expected to beat, but with a game of such magnitude around the corner to keep their discipline and secure a stunning 57-5 victory was highly impressive indeed and speaks for what an excellent team this Canford side is.

Clifton College

Clifton faced Blundell’s in a real heavyweight clash in the South West between two of the best performing sides in the country. Blundell’s had a Champions Trophy quarter final against Epsom College to prepare for but would not have wanted to drop a game heading into that as momentum is key in these top level clashes. Clifton College were outstanding therefore in putting one of the top sides around to the sword for a terrific 46-27 victory.

Harrow

Harrow have really been tearing up trees this season and sit unbeaten and at the head of the Daily Mail Trophy table. Nevertheless a fixture away at a very strong Tonbridge side, who only a few days before had booked their place in the Champions Trophy semi finals, is a very tough fixture to win. Win they did though, and in quite spectacular fashion, coming from 21-19 behind to secure a 33-21 victory in a brilliant game of rugby, confirming in the process just how good they are this year.

Sherborne

Sherborne hosted Abingdon having had an up and down first half of the season, and coming off the back of a heavy defeat to Wellington College in their previous game. Facing Abingdon then, a side who performed exceptionally before half term, was a tough ask indeed, but the Dorset side were truly outstanding as they worked hard and impressively for a 20-3 victory that should leave them very excited about the rest of the season to come.

Woodhouse Grove

The 2013 Daily Mail Trophy champions have been in truly brilliant form this season but perhaps no more so than on Saturday where they were truly outstanding against Yarm. There were some big scores all over the country, but none more so than Woodhouse Grove’s stunning 71-0 effort against Yarm, which took them up to eighth in the Daily Mail Trophy table. A truly outstanding result.
