Another stunning weekend of schools rugby has seen the Top 10 of the Daily Mail Trophy have a real shake up.
There were huge games all over the country as many of the Top 10 faced each other, guaranteeing some movement in the table, particularly following on from Kirkham Grammar School’s midweek win over Sedbergh.
That result, combined with a 20-6 win at Woodhouse Grove on Saturday saw Kirkham climb to fourth in the table, where they are just 0.03 points behind Sedbergh in third place, meanwhile relegating Wooodhouse Grove to tenth place.
Wellington College put themselves into a commanding lead at the top of the table as they beat their closest challengers, Harrow, 20-19 on Saturday. It gives the back to back champions a strong 0.62 lead over Harrow in second place, and a very good chance of making it three in a row.
Kirkham’s climb to fourth is bad news for Clifton College, whose defeat to Bromsgrove sees them slip three places to seventh, with St Peter’s York slipping from fifth to sixth.
That is because of Brighton College’s magnificent form, which has seen them rise to fifth place thanks to their excellent 34-8 win over John Fisher on Saturday.
Rugby School’s unbeaten season continued with their fine victory over Berkhamsted, and it sees them climb the table one place from ninth to eighth.
Millfield are back in the Top 10 for the first time since the very early stages of the season after they secured an outstanding 30-11 victory over a strong Whitgift side.
Their rise sees Canford drop out of the Top 10, with Woodhouse Grove down in tenth following their defeat to Kirkham.
There is still plenty of room for change in the last few weeks of the competition though, particularly with huge games to come such as Wellington College v Sedbergh and Millfield v Sedbergh.
