Haileybury march into County Cup Final

Haileybury played superbly to win 33-0 away to a good Bishop’s Stortford College side, securing their place in the Hertfordshire County Cup final at Old Albanians RFC on Wednesday 7th December in the process.

The strong home pack made it difficult for the visitors with some strong carries up front and a superb scrum, however Haileybury were in excellent form and put in a top drawer performance from the off.

The tailismanic Charlie Harrington was everywhere in the opening exchanges and scored an excellent try with his fifth carry in an incredible opening set of attacking plays. Man of the match Iwan Dawes added the extras.

The second try was even better with Ollie Heazel crossing after good team play in the approach with Kayode Ariyo providing the scoring offload.

Haileybury were moving the ball from side to side and playing the game at a quick tempo that made it difficult for the home team to find their feet. Phil Wistow, who performed really well throughout, made a burst through the middle of the field and gave the scoring pass to Spencer Owen to give the visitors a 19-0 half time lead.

The home team came out determined to do better in the second half but met a strong, hungry defence who shut them down and made every ruck a contest with Ollie Moody and Harry Collins prominent in this area.

Spencer Owen scored another great team for the visitors try following a good break from Sam Cappaert and a try scoring pass form Ollie Heazel which Dawes converted to put Haileybury into an unassailable 26-0 lead. The try was a just reward for Owen who worked hard to get his hands on the ball.

As the bench for both teams came on the game stalled a little before Dawes got an interception and fed the master try poacher Josh Stibbs to seal a comprehensive 33-0 victory sending Haileybury into the County Cup final against St. Albans next Wednesday at Old Albanians.

This was an excellent performance from Haileybury for whom Harry Collins and Charlie Harrington were superb but the man of the match was Iwan Dawes who tackled well and dictated proceedings from 10.
