Weekend Review: Season 2017/18 – Issue 12 – Daily Mail Trophy Top 10

The Daily Mail Trophy has seen a major shake-up over the last 7 days, and for the first time in three years it looks likely to end up outside of the grasp of Wellington College.

Sedbergh’s win over the triple champions on Wednesday night, which followed Harrow’s win over Wellington on Saturday, sees Sedbergh leapfrog them to take first place. A bonus point win in either of their next two games, v Millfield and QEGS Wakefield will not guarantee them the title, regardless of how Wellington College do in their final game against Epsom College on Saturday.

Wellington College remain in second, and are the only other side that can win the title, but Harrow’s victory over them on Saturday sees the North West Londoners jump up from sixth last week to third as we approach this weekend.

That jump sees Cranleigh slide slightly from third to fourth, having not had an eligible match in that period, so too St Peter’s York, who slip from fourth to fifth thanks to Harrow’s rise.

High flying Cheltenham College also slide down a spot from fifth to sixth, but like all of the top 6 bar Wellington College, they too are unbeaten.

Blundell’s re-enter the Top 10 for the first time in a while this week, their fantastic work seeing them rise into seventh place. That bumps Kingswood down a spot from seventh to eighth, despite their win at the weekend.

Haileybury also slide down a spot from eighth to ninth, as to Northampton School for Boys, from ninth to tenth despite a win at the weekend and their points tally actually rising.

Those results mean that Reed’s drop out of the Top 10 row now, but are just 0.03 points behind Northampton in tent. Canford are also in close quarters, they are just 0.08 outside for the Top 10.

QEGS Wakefield, Brighton College, St Edward’s Oxford, and Whitgift are all also in close proximity, all sit on a points tally of over 5.00, and with QEGS facing Sedbergh in that crucial last game of the season, they could easily break into the Top 10 and also have a huge impact on the overall destination of the Trophy.
