This week Sedbergh secured the Daily Mail Trophy title, becoming just the third side to win the competition.

Woodhouse Grove won the inaugural competition in 2013 then, following a shake up of the rules, Wellington College went on to dominate, winning three in a row in 2014, 2015, and 2016.

A win for Sedbergh over Wellington a couple of weeks ago opened the door for them to claim the title and they did so in style with a thumping bonus point win at Millfield on Wednesday, meaning that even if they lose to QEGS Wakefield on Saturday they will still win the Trophy.

Behind them, Wellington College have completed their games and are guaranteed second, so too Harrow in third.

Cranleigh are in fourth and travel to Marlborough College on Saturday, they are favourites there and a win should get them fourth place in the final table, but only a bonus point will guarantee it.

That is because fifth place Cheltenham College, who leapfrogged St Peter’s this week, face eighth place Blundell’s. A win of any sort will guarantee Cheltenham fifth, while a bonus would force Cranleigh to also win with a bonus to maintain the status quo, if Cheltenham lose then Blundell’s could overtake them, depending on bonus points during the game. A defeat for Blundell’s would almost certainly see them drop out of the top 10.

St Peter’s York are in 6^th on 5.83 points, defeats for those above them could see them rise as high as fourth, though they are favourites against Pocklington and will therefore retain a top ten place and should realistically remain sixth.

Brighton College have completed all of their games and sit in 7^th on 5.63 points, they will almost certainly stay in the Top 10 as only one side outside of the top 10 can overhaul them, an impressive effort having been outside of the Top 10 as recently as last week, bumping Northampton School for Boys down to eleventh in the process.

In 9^th Kingswood have a tricky game against Dean Close, a game they have to win to have a realistic chance of holding onto a top 10 place, defeat would see them drop down the table.

Haileybury are currently in 10^th, they face Berkhamsted on Saturday and a win would keep them in the top ten, and possibly a few places higher, defeat though would probably see them slip out.

Northampton School for Boys and St Edward’s Oxford are in tenth and eleventh respectively but both have completed their fixtures and it would take a lot of results going their way to get into the final Top 10.

Reed’s in 13^th could if they beat KCS Wimbledon and other results go their way. QEGS Wakefield in 14^th have that tricky tie against the champions, Sedbergh. A win there could see them as high as 6^th, but would more likely get them just into the top 10.

15^th placed Canford face 17^th placed Clifton College in final Trophy fixture for both. The winner of that one has a great chance of making it into the Top 10, though it looks like being a close game so those all-important bonus points could be hard to come by. Campion in 16^th will not make it into the top 10 even with a win over Wimbledon College.
