Schools Rugby Midweek Preview: NatWest games dominate the schedule

BECOME A PATRON

This week is a relatively quiet one in the world of schools rugby, but there is some exciting action, particularly with some big games in the NatWest Competitions.

There is also some 7s action at Rydal Penrhos, while there are some exciting non-Cup fixtures too.

NatWest Competitions

The NatWest Plate sees action this week with Hills Road of Cambridge making the long trip up to Crossley Heath in the Tier 2 competition.

The Vase sees plenty of games; the Tier 3 competition sees a huge game take place in Cambridge as The Perse host St George’s College, Weybridge. It should be a fascinating game between two good teams. Elsewhere in the Vase Silcoates welcome former semi finalists Seevic College, while Taunton School host Royal Latin. In the Midlands Worksop College travel to Trent College.

The Cup quarter finals are all over and done with but there is some great action set to take place in the Bowl, with Bolton hosting QEHS, Wycliffe College making the trip to Woodbridge, and an exciting game between Gordons and Old Swinford Hospital, who were Cup finalists back in 2012.

Non-NatWest Fixtures

Outside of the Cup there is some good action around the country. Coopers Coborn host King John School in the County Cup, while Hayes travel to Salesian. Reigate Gramamr School meanwhile host Tiffin.

Queen Ethelburga’s, who are in stunning form after beating St Ambrose College 59-0 at the weekend, face a tough test against an AASE College in the form of Myerscough College. Being in such top form though, they will likely be full of confidence.

7s

Rydal Penrhos host a 7s tournament on Wednesday. Having previously hosted the competition solely at U16 level, they open it up this year to U18 sides. It is a small tournament, compromising just six teams, but should serve as a good opportunity for each side to test themselves ahead of bigger tests to come.

Giggleswick, Newcastle-Under-Lyme School, Oswestry, Birkenhead, and Manchester Grammar School all make the trip to Rydal Penrhos and North Wales for a round robin tournament that should provide plenty of entertainment.
