Welsh Regional Age Grade Championship: Wellington College star could become cross-border champion

While talk on this side of the River Severn has been of the U18 Academy League and yesterday impressive Finals Day at Sixways Stadium, focus West of the River has been elsewhere.

The Welsh regions have been competing in the Welsh Regional Age Grade Championships.

The Ospreys have been the side to watch and they are currently unbeaten. Last week the beat the Newport-Gwent Dragons 39-5 in their final game of the regular season.

The two sides will meet again in the Welsh Regional Age Grade Championship final next week, effectively the same as the Harlequins v Sale Sharks clash at Sixways on Thursday in the English U18 Academy League.

One player who has been making a mark for the Ospreys is a man who knows both competitions inside out. Wellington College’s Dylan Moss starred for London Irish as a Lower 6th player in their run to the U18 Academy League title last year.

Following that Moss signed a four year deal with the Ospreys via the Welsh Exiles programme and will join Cardiff University once he completes his time at Wellington College.

The full back represented Wales U18 last year, and looks set to do so again this year, but before that he could become a double U18 club champion if the Ospreys beat the Dragons next week, once on either side of the Severn.

Ospreys v Dragons – Welsh Regional Age-Grade Championship Final – Tuesday 21st February, 19.30, Sardis Road, Pontypridd
