Haileybury 7s: Whitgift come out on top at Haileybury

BECOME A PATRON

Saturday saw a small but fierce 7s competition take place at Haileybury as six teams competed for the prizes.

Whitgift ultimately came out on top, beating Oaklands College and St Paul’s in what was probably the most tricky of the two groups, before they met Group B winners UCS in the final.

The Croydon based side came out on top in a competitive game, winning 14-5 to lift their first silverware of the 7s season.

UCS had already had to face a Whitgift side, they faced the Whitgift 2nd VII in the groups as well as host side, Haileybury.

Finishing second, Haileybury were into the 3rd place play off, where they met AASE side Oaklands College. They won that game 33-12 to keep the home support happy, while in the 5th place play off St Paul’s beat Whitgift’s 2nd VII 22-10.

It kicked off an exciting weekend of school 7s that also saw Wellington College secure victory at the Canford 7s, Bedford were champions of the Oakham 7s for the third year in a row, while Seaford College secured the Reed’s 7s title, and Kirkham Grammar School won the Christ College Brecon 7s.
