School 7s: Seaford College on song at the Reed’s 7s

Seaford College secured their first 7s title of the season on Sunday, winning the Reed’s 7s.

Eight teams gathered at Reed’s for a tough hit out following the half term break as all schools now start to turn an eye towards Rosslyn Park at the end of the month.

Seaford topped a tough Group B ahead of St John’s Leatherhead, with Wisbech Grammar finishing third and Kent College bottom.

That put the East Sussex side into the Cup final, where they faced the hosts, Reed’s, who had topped Group A. They had pipped Eastbourne College to top spot, while New Hall finished third and Gordon’s were bottom.

It had all the makings of a good final a proved to be so, Seaford were too strong for the hosts though, winning 27-17 to secure the Cup.

The Plate final saw the two second placed sides compete, with St John’s beating Eastbourne College 29-19, while in the Bowl it was third v third, with Wisbech Grammar winning 38-26 against New Hall. The Shield meanwhile was a battle of the fourth placed group finishers, with Gordon’s sealing the silverware with a tight 28-24 win over Kent College.

The story of the day though was Seaford College’s victory, a strong step on the way to the bigger 7s tests to come over the next few weeks.

Elsewhere Wellington College showed their 7s class with victory at the Canford 7s, Bedford were champions of the Oakham 7s for the third year in a row, while Kirkham Grammar lifted the Christ College Brecon 7s title for the first time in 2007 and Whitgift won the Haileybury 7s on Saturday.
