The Ampleforth College 7s takes place on Wednesday afternoon, with sixteen schools meeting at the famous rugby hotbed.
The teams are split into four groups of four, with the hosts, Ampleforth College, in a tricky looking Group C.
They are joined by Woodhouse Grove, who excelled in the fifteen-a-side season, Denstone College, and Hymers College.
Barnard Castle are the current holders, having beating Pocklington 26-7 in last year’s final. They are in Group D, which again looks like a tough one. Joining them are Bradford Grammar School, RGS Newcastle, and St Ambrose College.
Pocklington, meanwhile, are in Group A, where they will face the might of the 2015 champions, Sedbergh. They will not be joined by the side Sedbergh beat that day, Kirkham Grammar School, as they are not competing this year. Completing the group are Hill House and Ripon Grammar School.
Group B sees last year’s Plate winners, St Peter’s York, face Ashville College, Austin Friars, and Durham. St Peter’s will be gunning for something more this year though after a stunning fifteen-a-side season, and with the top two in each group heading to the Cup quarter finals, with the bottom two heading to the Plate, they will more than just fancy their chances of at least a Cup knockout spot.
