Windsor 7s: Champions gather in Windsor for the Windsor 7s on Sunday

Among Sunday’s many school 7s tournaments is the Windsor 7s, hosted at Windsor Boys’ School.

Sixteen teams will compete at Windsor Boys’, with four groups of four. The top two in each group will then move on to the Cup quarter finals, with the bottom two heading into the Plate quarter finals.

Bedford are possibly the side to look out for in this one, they have won every tournament that they have entered so far. They reside in Group A, where Claire’s Court, The Oratory, and St Edward’s Oxford will be their company, St Edward’s could well be inspired, having had England training at the school this week.

Group B looks like a heavyweight group, Stowe and Rugby had huge fifteen-a-side seasons and could well transfer that across to the 7s circuit. Stowe feel they could have beaten Bedford to the Oakham 7s title last week, so will be desperate to do so this week. Emanuel and St Benedict’s will be pulling out all of the stops to try to take a place in the Cup quarter at one of those two big guns’ expense.

Over in Group C Eton College are a standout side in what looks a very competitive group. Pangbourne College, Gordon’s, and Radley College are all capable of challenging and the race for the two Cup quarter final spots will be hot.

Group D is a real highlights, it contains the hosts, Windsor Boys’, and three sides who are bang in form. Haileybury arrive full of confidence having won the Hertfordshire 7s and reached the final of the Seaford 7s, while Merchant Taylors’ arrive after one of their best seasons and having picked up the Middlesex 7s Plate, though they are without skipper Will Porter due to England duty. RGS High Wycombe, meanwhile, are perhaps in the greatest form, having won Wednesday’s huge Solihull 7s.
It looks like being a hugely strong competition, as ever, and should give us some more useful form pointers on the way to Rosslyn Park.
