The opening day of Rugby School’s 450^th Anniversary 7s saw some fascinating games of rugby at their International U18 School 7s.

Teams from the four corners of the UK compromising three teams from England, Clifton College, Marlborough College, and hosts Rugby School, one from Scotland, Fettes College, one from Wales, Llandovery College, and one from Northern Ireland, Royal Belfast Academy, faced teams from all over the world.

Two sides from South Africa made the trip, Hilton College and Michaelhouse, as did New Zealand’s Nelson College, Canada’s Shawnigan Lake, Japan’s Oita Maizuru, and Australia’s Shore Sydney.

The twelve schools were split into two groups of six, with the two groups being played out on Day 1.

In Group A Rugby School finished top of the pile, with Hilton College in second. They both qualify for tomorrow’s Cup quarter finals, where Rugby will face Group B runners up Clifton College, and Hilton will face New Zealanders Nelson College.

The Plate semi finals will be made up of those finishing in third and fourth place. Marlborough College, third in Group A, face Michaelhouse, fourth in Group B, with Scotland’s Fettes College facing Shawnigan Lake of Canada, who were third in Group B

Those finishing in the bottom two places will compete for the Bowl, with Shore Syndey finishing 5^th in Group A facing Royal Belfast Academy of Northern Ireland in the first semi final, and Wales’ Llandovery College facing Oita Maizuru of Japan in the other.

The winners of each semi final will compete for their respective trophies, with the losers competing for placings, 3^rd place, 7^th place, and 11^th place.
