AASE League: Round 3 Roundup – Tables start to take shape

BECOME A PATRON

The AASE League has really begun to take shape following the conclusion of Wednesday’s third round fixtures.

There were some impressive wins as side now begin to jostle for position in the league table, with some having played half of the pre-split fixtures now.

Northern Conference

Oaklands College sit at the top of the Northern Conference, a point ahead of Worcester 6th form College and two ahead of Gosforth Academy, though they have played a game more than both.

Their place at the top comes despite an opening round defeat thanks to three bonus points and a 33-17 victory yesterday over newcomers Brooksby Melton College, who sit in fourth, plus last week’s win over bottom places Myerscough.

Gosforth look like the team to look out for though, they have scored 120 points in their two games so far, beating 6th placed Moulton College 68-26 on Wednesday to add to their 52-36 win over Brooksby Melton last week. They look every bit as formidable and points happy as they were last year.

Worcester 6th form College are in second and got the job done nicely with a tidy 30-17 win over Myerscough College on Wednesday, adding to their narrow win over Oaklands back in the opening round. Bishop Burton College were the side with a bye this week.

Southern Conference

In the South Hartpury College returned to their usual spot of top of the table on Wednesday after their beat SGS Filton College 34-5.

They are only top on points difference though, tied on 14 points with St Paul’s Catholic College, who put in a strong shift to beat Beechen Cliff, surprisingly now bottom of the table, 32-22, adding to victoriesover Truro College and Filton College.

Exeter College are four points behind but with a game in hand after a bye week this week. A bonus point win in that game in hand would put them back ahead of St Paul’s and Hartpury.

Henley College, meanwhile, are in fourth and looking impressive. They enjoyed a strong 41-26 win over Truro College on Wednesday, and in their only other game they ran Hartpury College very close – keep an eye on the Wasps affiliates this year.
