Following the opening rounds of the Champions Trophy, U18 Schools Cup, and U18 Schools Bowl last week, not to mention the second round of the Vase, this midweek is a little quieter.
That is not to saw that there is nothing going on though, far from it, with catch up fixtures in both the Cup and Champions Trophy, along with a number of Vase and Bowl games, and several non-competition fixtures.
There were three games going on today, with results coming in soon. Graveney hosted Carshalton in the Schools Bowl first round, while in the County Cup Watford GS travel to Parmiter’s. QES Kirkby were the latest side to host the Australian tourists, Ignatius Park.
The big game on Tuesday is the final Champions Trophy first round game between St John’s Leatherhead and King’s Canterbury. St John’s will start as favourites and are at home, but King’s have had a strong start to the year and will fancy a good go at an upset. The reward is a tough but brilliant one for the winner, as they will host the reigning champions, Tonbridge.
There are two games in the U18 Vase on Tuesday. Welbeck travel to Robert Smyth in Midlands B, the winner will make the trip to Wellingborough in round 3, Wellingborough are also in action on Tuesday, hosting Bishop Stopford. St Lawrence College meanehilw host Chatham and Clarendon in London & South East A, with the winner there heading to Sutton Valence.
In the Daily Mail Trophy Seaford College and St Benedict’s meet under the lights at Cobham RFC. Radley College meanwhile host Desborough.
The last piece of the U18 Cup Round 1 jigsaw is put in place on Wednesday as last year’s quarter finalists, Judd, host Sir Joseph Williamson’s. The winners move into the second round and have a strip to Maidstone Grammar, while the losers will head into the Plate competition.
Over in the Vase there is plenty of action. Austin Friars host Giggleswick in North with the winners travelling to Bolton. Chosen Hill meanwhile host Cleeve in Midlands A, where King’s Worcester are the prize. In the same section KES Stratford make a tough trip to Princethorpe College, with Bishop Vesey’s waiting patiently for the winner.
Midlands B also sees action as King’s Grantham host Trent College for what should be a close game, a trip to The Perse is the reward from that one.
London & South East B sees Mill Hill make the trip to Queen’s while Sandringham play host to St George’s Harpenden. Richard Hale travel to Cooper’s Coborn in the sister section.
Over in the Bowl there is also plenty going on as Davenant host King John, St Dunstan’s College travel to Robert Clack, and Warminster host St Lawrence. Perhaps the fixture of the Bowl this week though will be the Reigate derby between Reigate Grammar School and Reigate College.
Over in the Daily Mail Trophy there is plenty of exciting Wednesday action too, Cokethrope host Pate’s Grammar in what looks like a cracking game on paper, similarly Ellesmere College v Adams Grammar.
KES Birmingham v Bloxham and Reading Blue Coat v The Oratory both look like another pair of cracking fixtures, while St Peter’s Gloucester’s trip to Solihull should be a great game of rugby too.
The evening kick of between King’s Macclesfield and Manchester Grammar ought also to be a good game, both sides have had some impressive results to date.
One of the biggest games of the day though will probably be Millfield v Palmerston North. The New Zealanders travelled to Millfield a few years ago and played out a brilliant game of rugby, and it looks likely that we could be in for another absolute cracker on Wednesday.
Among the other cracking looking fixtures on Wednesday are Chislehurst & Sidcup v Campion, London Oratory v UCS, and Christ College v Monmouth, an exciting looking Welsh derby.
There is yet more Vase action on Thursday, with Silcoates travelling to Hill House in North B. The winners there will host Nottingham High School.
Over in the Bowl John Cleveland host King Henry VIII Coventry, while in the Scottish Cup Fettes College host Peebles High.
Outside of the knockout games Hurstpierpoint College host Charterhouse and Milton Abbey have Sexey’s for company.
There are four fixtures under the lights on Friday, but the action all begins in the afternoon as Hayes welcome Harlequins, not the famous South West Londoners, but Harlequins club of Pretoria, South Africa.
Moving into the evening, Caterham host Colfe’s, while Shiplake College make the trip to Halliford, and King’s Rochester welcome St Dunstan’s.
Perhaps the game of the day though will be in Kent, where Judd will host Skinners’.
