It has been a superb week of school rugby, with fixtures on every day this week and some exciting ones at that.
We have covered the Champions Trophy and Schools Cup elsewhere, but here we take a look at all of the other rugby that was on this week.
Monday
There was just the one game on Monday as Ashville College became the North B representatives in the quarter finals of the U18 Schools Bowl following their 32-24 win over Lady Manners’ in the regional final.
Tuesday
Tuesday saw Dauntsey’s become the South West A U18 Schools Vase quarter finalists as they beat Taunton School 27-7 in the regional final.
There was also Scottish Cup action as Strathallan impressed for a 21-3 win over George Watson’s College and Glenalmond College secured the win in an incredibly tight game against Fettes College, 6-3.
Dame Alice Owens made progress in their county cup with a 22-0 win over Birchwood High School, while elsewhere The Leys secured a 32-24 win over Bishop’s Stortford College.
Wednesday
The U18 Schools Plate saw three of its quarter finalists confirmed on Wednesday. St Peter’s Gloucester claimed the South West A spot with a 35-14 win at KES Southampton, while Trinity secured the London & South East B spot in an absolute thriller against Peter Symonds’, eventually claiming it 38-31. Over in Midlands B it will be KES Birmingham that represent them in the quarter finals, beating Wrekin College 22-0 in the regional final. St Ambrose College meanwhile claimed the North A berth with a 36-14 win over RGS Lancaster.
Over in the Vase Wirral Grammar School head to the quarter finals from North A after their 22-19 win over Giggleswick, over in London & South East A it was Hayes that secured the quarter final spot. An historic moment in their sporting history as they beat a strong Sutton Valence side 23-0.
There was a thriller in London & South East B as Reed’s secured the quarter final berth by the skin of their teeth, beating a spirited St George’s Harpenden side 34-31. In North B, meanwhile, it will be Ripon Grammar School in the quarter finals after they edged a tight one against Worksop College, 15-14. Sir William Borlase’s wrapped up the South West B spot, seeing off The Crypt by an impressive 35-7 margin.
The Schools Bowl saw plenty of play too. King Henry VIII, Coventry are the Midlands A champions, heading into the quarters after a 12-10 win at Shrewsbury, while Samuel Whitbread head through form Midlands A after their 22-13 win over Loughborough Grammar. Ravens Wood powered through from London & South East A, beating Beth’s grammar 53-20.
Elsewhere UCS booked their county cup final spot with a 50-0 win over Hampton’s 2nd XV, there were also county Cup wins for Haileybury, and Enfield Grammar.
Crawshay’s Welsh secured a 17-12 win in a cracking game against Christ Colelge, while Shiplake College were 29-7 victors at Cokethorpe. Norwich, meanwhile, beat Framlingham College 26-15 at Bury St Edmunds RFC.
KES Aston won in a bit of a points fest against Princethorpe College, 42-29, while Bloxham were 34-0 winners at Lawrence Sheriff. There was an exciting draw between Lord Wandsworth College and Pangbourne College, finishing up 10-10, but things were not so close in Devon as Plymouth College went down 50-19 to AASE side Truro College. Abraham Darby, meanwhile, beat Wolverhampton Grammar 43-15.
Thursday
There was one Schools Plate game on Thursday as Uppingham became the Midlands A champions, heading into the quarter finals with a 27-23 win at Norfolk side Gresham’s.
Uppingham’s great rivals, Oakham, were 56-20 winners at Leicester Grammar School, while in the Daily Mail Trophy there was a thrilling 21-21 draw between Monmouth and Dean Close, and Bedford secured an impressive 39-15 victory at Radley College.
