The draw for the U18 Schools Cup quarter finals has been made, and there are four exciting looking fixtures ahead.
Three last 16 games remain to be played, King’s Macclesfield v Stonyhurst College in North A takes place on Saturday, with QEGS Wakefield v RGS Newcastle in North B next Saturday, and Bishop Wordsworth’s v Dean Close taking place in midweek in South West A.
It was Bishop Wordsworth’s, last year’s losing finalists, and Dean Close, one of the form sides this year, that were drawn from the hat first. The winner of their late tie will host the 2010 and 2011 champions Whitgift in the quarter final. Whitgift have been on fire in London & South East A and are among the favourites, particularly after their 36-12 win at Hampton in the last 16 on Wednesday.
Next up was the reigning champions, Warwick, who have sailed through Midlands B, finishing up with a 30-18 win over Solihull. They will be at home to Canford, who finished as South West B champions on Thursday after a tense and exciting 27-24 win away at Ivybridge Community College. Could they be the side to derail the champions?
Last year’s Vase winners were Northampton School for Boys, but previously they had been Schools Cup finalists, back in 2014 when they lost to Dulwich College. They will be looking to go one better this year, and topped Midlands A on Wednesday after beating Stamford 27-17. They will host last year’s quarter finalists, Judd, who came through London & South East B after an exciting old scrap at John Fisher, where they just came through as 26-23 victors.
The final quarter final sees the winner of that King’s Macclesfield v Stonyhurst College game on Saturday host the winners of next week’s game between QEGS Wakefield, last year’s finalists and schools cup legends, against RGS Newcastle, the former champions.
