Scotland U18 have named a 37-man training squad for a two day training camp on the 28th and 29th December.
Head Coach Iain Monaghan has selected 22 forwards and 15 backs as they begin their preparations ahead of this season’s U18 fixtures, which includes a game against Wales in March and the U18 6 Nations Tournament in April, which will feature games against England, France, and Ireland for Scotland.
Alongside assistants Ross Miller and Ally Donaldson, Monaghan has selected a number of English School based players in the squad, including Sedbergh’s Jack Hill, Rugby’s Ben Muncaster, Hymers College’s Angus Haswell, and Gosforth’s James Barker.
Merchiston Castle make up the largest contingent of representatives, with six players in the squad, while Scottish Schools Cup winners Strathallan have four representatives and George Watson’s College have three.
Commenting on the squad to Scottish Rugby, Monaghan said:
“We have selected as a big a group as possible for our first training camp this month, in order for us to get a good look at all these players. This is the first stage of our selection as we build towards future camps in the New Year.”
“A lot of planning has been going on behind the scenes over the last couple of months and we’re now looking forward to getting them in to train, as we prepare for exciting challenges and opportunities as they transition towards adult and U20 rugby.”
