School 7s: Cheltenham College & Harrow show their form

Two sides making waves this weekend were Cheltenham College and Harrow.

Cheltenham College picked up the West of England 7s title at King’s College Taunton, while Harrow were the victors at a competitive Uppingham 7s.

It was Cheltenham College’s second 7s title of the season, and they are surely now to be considered the favourites for the Vase tournament at the Rosslyn Park HSBC National School 7s.

They beat Blundell’s, another side that can be expected to perform well over the 7s season, 24-21 in a thrilling semi final, before seeing off Tuanton School 17-12 in the final, who had beaten the hosts in their semi final.

It capped a brilliant day for Cheltenham, whose U14s had won their tournament and the U16s were runners-up in the Colts competition. It looks like Cheltenham College will be fighting at the top for a while yet.

Over in Rutland at the Uppingham 7s it was Harrow that were the victors in a field that included the likes of Bedford, Oundle, Oakham, Rugby, St Joseph’s College, and of course the hosts, Uppingham.

Harrow beat St Joseph’s College in the final after topping their group, while Oakham lifted the Plate and Rugby School picked up the Bowl.

There was some joy for Uppingham though, they prevented Harrow from doing the double as their U16s won an excellent Colts competition to keep the U16 Cup at home.
