The Colston’s 7s takes place this Sunday and the field looks incredibly strong this year.
With sixteen teams in attendance, competition should be fierce. They are split into four groups of four, with the group winners heading to the Cup semi finals, second place to the Plate semis, third to the Shield semis, and fourth to the Trophy semi finals.
Kirkham Grammar School are the reigning champions and will be in attendance, though with the huge North of England 7s taking place on the same day, they will likely be sending a second string side as they seek to defend two titles in one day.
The Champions are in Group B, which looks a highly competitive group, Bristol Grammar School, King’s Bruton, and Seaford College will be there trying to reach the Cup semis ahead of the champions.
The hosts, Colston’s, will be keen to reach the Cup semi finals and they will be aiming to do so from Group A. The competition will be fierce though, not least from Clifton College, who impressed at the Christ College Brecon 7s last week. Hayes will be no slouches either, nor St Laurence.
Last year’s runners-up were Abingdon. They find themselves in a treacherous looking Group C, with 7s experts Wellington College their main competition and probably the favourites for the tournament. Joining those two are last year’s Plate champions, Exeter School, as well as the hosts of last week’s West of England 7s, King’s College Taunton.
Finally to Group D, which looks as though it will be incredibly tightly contested. Kingswood, who so impressed through the fifteen-a-side season, will be a strong side, so too AASE side Ivybridge Community College. Prior Park College and Taunton School will make life hard as well.
Overall, it looks like a hugely competitive and high level tournament, an excellent marker on the way to the Rosslyn Park HSBC National School 7s.
