U15 Schools Bowl Final: Worth v Saffron Walden – Preview

BECOME A PATRON

It will be just the second ever U15 Schools Bowl final when Worth and Saffron Walden meet at Sixways on Tuesday for the 11am kick off.

Both sides arrive at the home of Worcester Warriors after seriously contrasting semi finals. Worth were engaged in a real battle of a semi final against Penryn College but showed fantastic spirit and determination to come through it with a narrow 10-8 win.

Saffron Walden, on the other hand, came through their in style, beating Emmanuel College 31-0. The fourth time in six Bowl games that they hadn’t conceded a single point. Indeed only once have they conceded a significant number of points in this competition, 22 against Severn Vale in the quarter final, but they scored 44 of their own so it was not too much of an issue.

Worth’s defence has not been as rigid, but whose could be, however in knockout rugby it is progressing that counts and Worth have proved mightily adept at that. Continually they seem to have found a way to get through the tight games in this competition, that 10-8 semi final win being one, a 15-14 win against Hall Mead in the last 16 being another.

Perhaps then this contest might be defined by whether Worth can bring Saffron Walden into a tight low-scoring contest, the 2011 U15 Vase winners are yet to have to try and battle through a close one in this competition.

Whatever happens, it should be quite an occasion at Sixways, and a great game of rugby.
