Wales have named their side for Tuesday’s fifth place semi final against Argentina.

The game, kicking off at 1pm (BST) in Narbonne, sees the winner go to the 5^th place play off against the winner of Italy v Australia, while the loser will play in the 7^th place play off.

Wales finished second in Pool A after narrow wins over Australia and Japan and a defeat to New Zealand, while Argentina impressed but ultimately came third behind England and Italy in Pool B, but ahead of Scotland.

Head Coach Geraint Lewis has again selected Leicester Tigers flanker Tommy Reffell as captain and he is the only survivor from the back row that so narrowly beat Japan, with Dan Davis coming in at openside and Ben Fry at number 8 making is first ever start for the U20s.

It is a fresh second row pair as well, with Max Williams and Bath’s former Millfield star Rhys Davies both returning after missing the last game. Rhys Carre comes in at loosehead with Iestyn Harris returning at hooker, Chris Coleman is at tighthead.

Dane Blacker returns at scrum half, while at fly half Cai Evans moves from his familiar full back role to play at stand off. His move in turn sees Dewi Cross move to full back from the wing, with Corey Baldwin and Ryan Conbeer on the wings. Ioan Nicholas and Tiaan Thomas-Wheeler combine in the centres.

Speaking ahead of the game, Lewis said: “We’ve got a very confident squad of players heading into this game. They are really excited by the challenge posed by Argentina. We came to France full of enthusiasm about the prospect of facing unfamiliar teams like Australia and New Zealand, so the fact that we now get to take on another Southern Hemisphere side has only increased that feeling.”
