World Rugby U20 Championships: Scotland ready for Georgia clash

Scotland have made two changes to the side that beat Ireland 45-29 on Tuesday for Sunday’s 9th place play-off against Georgia in the 2018 World Rugby U20 Championshops.

Boroughmuir’s Ross Dunbar comes in at loosehead for Leicester Tigers’ Sam Grahamslaw, who starts on the bench. Dunbar will be alongside the retained Robbie Smith and Finlay Richardson in the front row.

The second row is unchanged, with Jamie Hodgson and St Joseph’s College’s Marshall Sykes keeping their places after dominant performances against Ireland. There are two Exiles in the back row, Northampton Saints’ Devante Onojaife keeps his place at 8, while Newcastle Falcons’ Guy Graham comes in on the blindside. Rory Darge remains at openside.

The impressive Charlie Chapman of Gloucester starts at scrum half alongside Callum McLelland. Ayr’s Stafford McDowall again captains the side from inside centre, where he partners Cameron Hutchinson. Scotland’s impressive back three of Logan Trotter and Kyle Rowe on the wings and Paddy Dewhirst at full back remains unchanged.

Commenting on his selection ahead of the game, Scotland U20 Head Coach Bryan Redpath said:

“We were obviously delighted with how the squad performed against Ireland. We showed a lot of heart to battle back and ultimately ended the match as deserved winners. There are still a lot of areas where we need to be better, but I was really pleased with the way we attacked the Irish defence, while we competed really well at the breakdown.”

“The boys have again trained excellently as we prepare to face a really dangerous Georgia side, but we’ll look to carry our momentum into the clash and finish the tournament in as high a position as possible.”
