U18 Schools Vase: Vase gets off to an exiting start across the country

BECOME A PATRON

The U18 Schools Vase got underway this week, with fixtures throughout the week in all eight sections of the competition.

 

A number of sides have byes through to the second round, however there were still a huge number playing in this week’s fixtures before the second round takes place on the week beginning Monday 26th September, which will also see the Champions Trophy, Cup, and Bowl kick off. The U15 competitions, meanwhile, do not kick off until the first week of October.

 

North A

 

Wednesday was the major day in North A as Ripon Grammar School beat Ampleforth College, St Aidans beat Harrogate Grammar, Ashville saw off Prince Henry’s, and Silcoates beat Thomas Rotherham. Pocklington also progressed following a walkover against Wilfreton.

 

KES Morpeth and Newcastle School for Boys met on Thursday with the result still to come in, likewise Ilkley Grammar and Crossley Heath on Wedesday. Emmanuel College and Queen Elizabeth 6th form College meet on Friday evening.

 

Next week sees fixtures on Monday and Tuesday to tie up the round, with QEHS Hexham hosting Dame Allan’s on Tuesday and Bede Academy making the trip to Gateshead College on Monday.

Worksop College were in flying form on Wednesday against Wales High School, Austin Friars also recorded a strong win over QEGS Penrith, while Liverpool College won a thriller at St Edward’s College, 32-26.

 

Fallibroome meanwhile hosted Audenshaw and Giggleswick travelled to Hutton Grammar, with those results still to come in.

 

Next week sees Birkdale make the trip to Lady Manners and Birkenhead host King William’s College, with Runshaw welcoming Bolton, all on Wednesday 19th.

Midlands A

 

Midlands A kicked off on Tuesday with Woodbridge winning away at Thomas Mills. The following day saw RGS Colchester, Bishop’s Stortford High School, and Bishop’s Stortford College all pick up victories.

 

Wednesday was a busy day in Midlands A with King’s Peterborough taking a good victory over St Ivo, while Spalding Grammar won at Hitchingbrooke, Carre’s meanwhile had a superb win at Priory Ruskin. Elsewhere there were also strong wins for Wellingborough, Aylesbury Grammar, and Royal Latin, with Tring winning at home and St George’s Harpenden winning a cracking encounter at home to Richard Hale, 33-25. Samuel Whitbread meanwhile had a walkover at North Hertfordshire College.

 

Also on Wednesday was Hitchin v Sir John Lawes, while on Thursday Bishop Stopford hosted Robert Smyth, with the results still to come in.

Wednesday was the dominant day in Midlands B, with wins for Leicester Grammar, King Henry VIII Coventry, and Hereford Cathedral School. King’s Worcester lost out to Hereford 6th form College and the side that beat King’s last week, KES Five Ways, were winning again this week, beating Prince Henry’s 31-0.

 

Fairfax and Haberdashers were also victorious, while Welbeck had a walkover over John Cleveland, meanwhile QEGS Ashbourne and Newcastle-Under-Lyme both enjoyed spectacular victories. Bishop Vesey’s v KES Lichfield’s result is yet to come in.

 

Next week sees four games take place on Wednesday 19th as Kenilworth welcome KES Stratford, KES Aston host Queen Mary’s, Abraham Darby travel to Shrewsbury, and Ellesmere College make the trip to Wrekin College.

Wallington County Gammar, Richard Challoner, Reed’s, Mill Hill, and Verulam were all in flying form in the opening round in London & South East A. There were also wins for St Columba’s at Sandringham, while Tiffin won a thriller at Grey Court. City of London Freemen’s were tight 15-10 winners at home to Glyn.

 

There are four results still to come in from London & South East A, with Beaumont v Parmiter’s, Isleworth & Syon v St Benedict’s, and Queen’s Bushey v QES Barnet all on Wednesday and Hemel Hempsted v St Celemnt Danes on Thursday.

 

Next week sees four games, all on Wednesday 19th, Davenant v Enfield, St George’s Weybridge v Salesian, Rutlish v St Cecilia’s, and Harris City Academy’s trip to St Dunstan’s.

St Lawrence College kicked things off in London & South East B in stunning fashion on Tuesday with an 80-0 victory. On Wednesday Dartford Grammar, The Weald, Cardinal Newman, Sutton Valence, and Duke of York’s Royal Military School all followed suit with dominant wins of their own.

 

Wednesday also saw narrower wins from Brentwood, Beth’s, Hayes, and St Olave’s, while Simon Langton enjoyed a walkover. Thursday, meanwhile, saw Dover Grammar beat Ashford 31-19.

 

Next week sees Sevenoaks host Maidstone Grammar on Tuesday, while on Wednesday Worth travel to Reigate College and Worthing High School host Bhavsic.

There were only two games on Wednesday in South West A, Gryphon beating QES Wimbourne 36-0 and Backwell enjoying a walkover. Sheldon v Dauntsey’s and Bournemouth v Clayesmore both took place on Thursday, with neither result yet to come in.

 

The bulk of the fixtures take place over the next week, with West Buckland hosting Mount Kelly on Saturday before Midsome Norton and Bristol Cathedral meet on Monday. Tuesday meanwhile sees Frome host St Laurence, while there are three games on Wednesday, Warminster v Melksham Oak, Brockenhurst College v Poole, and Kingsbridge v Torquay Boys Grammar.

The Crypt got off to a flyer against Wycliffe Collge while Gordon’s enjoyed a stunning win at Desborough College. There were also big wins for The Oratory and Marling. John Hampden meanwhile beat Lord William’s while Cotswold School beat St Edward’s Cheltenham. Sir William Borlase’s v Winsdor Boys’ result is yet to come in.

 

Three fixtures take place next week, all on Wednesday 19th as Oaklands host Ryde, Reading Blue Coat host St Bartholomew’s, and Tewkesbury travel to Beaufort.
