AASE League: Round 4 Preview – Can Beechen Cliff inflict more pain on Hartpury?

Wednesday sees the 4th Round of the AASE League take place, an exciting week after the drama of round 3.

Exeter College really shook the league up with their thrilling win over Hartpury College to maintain their unbeaten start in the Southern Conference, with Beechen Cliff also unbeaten and facing Hartpury this week, it should be a top round in the south.

In the Northern Conference Bishop Burton College and Gosforth Academy both picked up wins last week to maintain their unbeaten starts, with Gosforth having a bye week this week though, it is a chance for Bishop Burton to pull away.

Northern Conference

Bishop Burton face a stern test if they want to stretch their lead though as they host an Oaklands College side that gave Gosforth a real game last week. A win on Wednesday for the hosts and suddenly that Gosforth v Bishop Burton game next week looks even bigger.

Brooksby Melton College have also had a strong start, their only defeat was a very narrow one to Bishop Burton in the opening round. This week they host Myerscough College, who last week recorded an outstanding win over Moulton College and will arrive full of confidence.

Moulton meanwhile are hoping to get back on the horse this week as they search for their opening victory of the campaign. They welcome the only other side without a win in the conference, Stourport High School, who are new this year and will surely be eyeing this as an opportunity. It could be a massive game of rugby.

Southern Conference

Undoubtedly the biggest game in the Southern Conference is Beechen Cliff’s trip to Hartpury College. Can Beechen Cliff maintain their unbeaten start and inflict another defeat on Hartpury, or will this undoubtedly talented Hartpury squad bounce back and take some of their pain out on Beechen Cliff? It is one not to be missed, that much is certain.

Fresh from last week’s win, Exeter College this week travel to St Paul’s Catholic College, who conceded 70 to Hartpury a fortnight ago. Do not let that fool you though, St Paul’s have a win to their name and are a decent side, especially at home. For Exeter though, backing up last week’s win is crucial.

SGS Filton College meanwhile search for their first victory of the season on Wednesday as they travel to Henley College. It will not be easy though, Henley might also be without a win but they have shown good form in their defeats to St Paul’s, Exeter College, and Beechen Cliff, and will be looking to turn performance into results on Wednesday.
