U18 Schools Vase: Round 3 Preview

The U18 Schools Vase enters the third round this week as the competition begins to intensify.

 

It is by far the busiest of all the Schools Cup knockout competitions, with 32 third round ties in total.

 

North A

 

Four games await us on Wednesday in North A as Dame Allan’s host Newcastle School for Boys, Ripon Grammar welcome Pocklington, St Aidans host Ashville College, and Silcoates travel to Crossley Heath. Oddly, Dame Allan’s were the only side to play in Round 2, beating Emmanuel 40-22, everyone else had a bye.

North B

 

There are just two games in North B this week after Bolton School beat Fallibroome 23-0 last week. They await the winners of Birkdale v Worksop College, who meet on Wednesday. Also in action on Wednesday are St Anselm’s and Birkenhead, but they will have to wait to find out their fourth round opponent, Austin Friars do not host Hutton Grammar until the 17th.

Midlands A

 

The highlights of Midlands A will surely come on Wednesday in the Bishop’s Stortford derby. High School host College on Wednesday with both sides unbeaten, making it surely one of the most anticipated Bishop’s Stortford derbies in years. The winner will face either Samuel Whitbread or St George’s Harpenden, who also meet on Wednesday. At the other side of the section on Wednesday Aylesbury Grammar host Wellingborough, while King’s Grantham welcome King’s Peerborough.

Midlands B

 

Midlands B is another all-Wednesday section, Leicester Grammar host KES Stratford with the winner playing either Hereford 6th form College or KES Five Ways. At the other end of the draw KES Aston host an in form Bishop Vesey’s side, while Newcastle Under Lyme are hosting Shrewsbury.

London & South East A

 

It’s Wednesday all the way in London & South East A too as St Columba’s host Verulam and St Benedict’s welcome QES Barnet for what should be a top couple of games. Reigning Bowl champions St George’s College Weybridge are at home against City of London Freemen’s, while Wallington County Grammar travel to Richard Challoner’s.

London & South East B

 

St Lawrence and Duke of York’s Royal Military School kick things off in this section on Tuesday, then on Wednesday Brentwood host Dartford Grammar, with the winner facing the victor in Tuesday’s game in round 4. Also on Wednesday is Hayes v Sutton Valence, they will have to wait to find out their round 4 opponent though as Cardinal Newman and The Weald on not meet until the 17th.

South West A

 

The action begins in South West A on Wednesday with Plymouth College hosting West Buckland, while Brockenhurst host Thomas Hardye, the winners of those two will meet next round. Meanwhile Backwell welcome St Laurence, while on Thursday it is the turn of Dauntsey’s, who travel to Warminster.

South West B

 

South West B all takes place on Wednesday. Tewkesbury take on The Crypt while Marling host Royal Wootton Bassett. Meanwhile in the bottom half of the draw Gordon’s have a tripto John Hampden, with the winner playing the winner of The Oratory v Ryde.
