Schools Rugby Weekend Roundup: Saturday 20th October (non-St Jo’s)

While much of the Schools Rugby focus this weekend was on the outstanding St Joseph’s Festival, won by RGS Newcastle, there was a smattering of other school rugby going on too.

Not least in Croydon where Whitgift once again showed their class with an impressive 43-8 victory over Bishop Wordsworth’s.

Sedbergh, meanwhile, continued their unbeaten run with a fantastic 57-0 win over Berkhamsted, who had actually performed exceptionally well but were caught of by the sheer clinical edge of Sedbergh’s play.

Elsewhere Bristol Grammar School were in high-scoring form too, beating QEH 57-19, while Hereford Cathedral travelled to Oswestry and came home with a 46-3 victory.

Old Swinford Hospital also enjoyed a strong victory as they hosted KES Birmingham, winning 60-14, meanwhile Ellesmere College beat King William’s College 47-10.

Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School’s good season continued with a 56-11 victory over Adams Grammar, while Birkdale were 53-7 victors at home to Rodillian Acaedmy.

There were a couple of games on Friday night too, not least an exciting derby in Bath as KES Bath edged out Beechen Cliff 18-17 in a really tense game.

There was also a Schools Bowl game on Friday night as Hitchin hosted Ipswich, winning 17-8 to head into the Last 16 in Midlands A, the first side to do so.
