Schools Rugby Midweek Preview: Preview & predictions – and a look at the half term results

With a few schools back from their half term breaks there is a fair smattering of schools rugby this midweek.

It looks as though it will all be taking place on Wednesday, and there are some important Cup games to keep an eye on first and foremost.

In the Schools Bowl Priory Academy will host Hitchingbrook in Midlands A, with the winner travelling to Robert Smyth in Round 3.

Meanwhile in the Oxfordshire County Cup St Edward’s Oxford will open their account for the second half of term at home to Chipping Norton School.

Elsewhere John Fisher are back in action after their St Joseph’s Festival exploits, they host Wallington County Grammar, while Kent College welcome Oakwood Park and Simon Langton Grammar head over to Duke of York’s Royal Military School.

In Leicestershire there is a big game, with Leicester Grammar hosting King’s Grantham. Elsewhere Saint Cecilia’s travel to Rutlish, Richard Challoner are at Royal Alexandra and Albert, and Davenant welcome Barking & Dagenham College. Coopers’ Coborn, meanwhile, are at home to KEGS Chelmsford.

Results

There are also a handful of results from last midweek to report, chief among them the Modus Cup result. The Modus Cup result is the annual fixture between King’s Worcester and RGS Worcester at Worcester Warriors’ Sixways Stadium. RGS broke a three year King’s winning streak last year, and made it back to back wins for themselves this year with a brilliant 31-13 victory.

There was also some Schools Vase action as Bishop Vesey’s beat KES Ashton 48-7 away from home to send them into the 4th Round in Midlands B, where they will host Shrewsbury.

RGS Newcastle enjoyed a memorable St Joseph’s Festival triumph right at the start of half term, their second XV backed that up superbly on Wednesday last week, beating Prince Henry’s Grammar School’s 1st XV 41-0 away from home. Knights Templar meanwhile beat Sandringham 34-26.

Kirkham Grammar School meanwhile have been on tour in Ireland and bounced back brilliantly from their defeat to Sedbergh prior to half term with a superb 47-19 win at Wesley College.
