Schools Rugby Midweek Preview: Exciting games take place away from the knockout competitions

The Champions Trophy, Schools Cup, and the Plate, Vase, and Bowl competitions may well dominate most of the week’s headlines, however there is plenty of other rugby on the go too.

Schools Cup Round 3 Preview

There is just the one game on Tuesday but it features a hugely impressive Radley College side, who look to bounce back from their narrow loss to St Paul’s at the weekend when they host Burford.

Wednesday features some massive matches, not least a huge Anglo-Welsh derby between Millfield, one of the handful of the very best sides in the country, and Llandovery College, traditionally one of the very strongest sides in Wales, and indeed the UK. It ought to be a blockbuster afternoon.

Elsewhere Bedford Modern host Hills Road and go in search of an important win, while Brentwood host Saffron Walden, while back on the Welsh scene there is a massive game between Christ College and Gowerton.

Another massive fixture sees another top end schools rugby side playing host, Denstone College. They welcome Ellesmere College and look to get this second half of the season off to a flying start.

In the south KCS Wimbledon have a big game at home to Emanuel, while Cranbrook welcome Simon Langton, meanwhile Grey Court host Isleworth & Syon, while Sandringham host Beaumont, and the in form Magdalen College travel to Watford Grammar.

Moving North, Ermysted’s Grammar travel to QES Kirkby Lonsdale, while Wrekin College make the trip to Tettenhall College. Even further north in the Scottish Schools Cup, Dollar Academy host Marr College.

St Edward’s Oxford look to get a win on the card after a narrow defeat to Stowe on Saturday, they travel to Lord Williams. Queen’s College Taunton meanwhile host Sidcot, while Clayesmore welcome Warminster and King’s Rochester travel to Bethany.

There is a massive game on Friday evening at Broadstreet RFC on Friday evening, as King Henry VIII, Coventry and Bablake meet for their annual classic clash. It is always a fantastic occasion, and ought to see a packed out Broadstreet ground.

There are a couple of other cracking games on Friday too, with Liverpool College heading across to the Isle of Man to take on King William’s College. St Peter’s Gloucester meanwhile host The Crypt.
