The Schools Cup returned this week with the bulk of the third round fixtures being played, the winners of each heading to the final regional stage of the competition – the regional final.

With the competition split into 8 regions, the winner of each region then goes into the pot from which the quarter final draw is made on a national level.

Regional Final: Wilsmlow HS v Wirral GS

Round 3:

Lancaster RGS 6-17 Wilmslow HS

Wirral Grammar 31-10 Lymm HS

The North A Regional Final will see Wilmslow High School host Wirral Grammar School after the two sides put in impressive third round performances, Wimslow High School beating Lancaster RGS 17-6 and Wirral Grammar beating a strong Lymm High School sides 31-10.

North B

Round 3:

RGS Newcastle v St Peter’s, York – Saturday

King’s Macclesfield 7-31 Woodhouse Grove

The group of death continues on Saturday with St Joseph’s Festival champions RGS Newcastle hosting St Peter’s York. The winners know who they will be facing in the regional final though, the outstanding unbeaten Woodhouse Grove, who beat King’s Macclesfield 31-7.

Midlands A

Regional Final: Norwich v Rugby

Round 3:

Norwich 15-10 Felsted

The Perse 0-54 Rugby

Midlands A kicked off on Tuesday with a thrilling Norwich v Felsted game, Norwich had won narrowly against the same opponents earlier in the season, and did so again on Tuesday, 15-10, to keep their unbeaten season going. An unbeaten record will go in the regional final though after Rugby continued theirs with a stunning 54-0 win at The Perse on Wednesday. It should be a blockbuster last 16 game.

Midlands B

Regional Final: TBA

Round 3:

Bromsgrove v Warwick – Tuesday 13th

Uppingham v Mount St Mary’s – Tuesday 13th

Midlands B is yet to get underway in the third round, with both fixtures taking place on Tuesday. It should be a cracking day too, with the two most recent former champions, Bromsgrove and Warwick, going head to head, while a good Uppingham side host a rampant Mount St Mary’s outfit.

London & South East A

Regional Final: Campion v TBA

Round 3:

Campion 27-7 UCS

Eltham College v Whitgift – Wednesday 14th

Campion booked their place in the regional final on Wednesday with an excellent 27-7 victory over UCS, they will face either Eltham College or Whitgift in that final, with unbeaten Eltham hosting a Whitgift side that have only lost to Wellington and Sedbergh on Wednesday.

London & South East B

Regional Final: TBA

Round 3:

Seaford College v Caterham – Wednesday 14th

Wimbledon College v KCS Wimbledon – Wednesday 14th

London & South East B awaits the start of the third round, Seaford College host Caterham on Wednesday, and on the same day there is a massive Wimbledon derby as Wimbledon College host KCS Wimbledon is one of the tastiest 3rd round ties of the lot.

South West A

Regional Final: Ivybridge Community College v Portsmouth Grammar

Round 3:

Ivybridge 35-21 Richard Huish

Portsmouth Grammar 26-22 Bishop Wordsworth’s

Ivybridge Community College will host Portsmouth Grammar School in the regional final in South West A after dark horses Ivybridge beat Richard Huish 35-21 and Portsmouth Grammar School enjoyed a tense but brilliant 26-22 victory over 2017 finalists, Bishop Wordsworth’s.

South West B

Regional Final: TBA v Marlborough College

Round 3:

Sir Thomas Rich’s v Dean Close – TBA

Marlborough College 38-3 Downside

Dean Close 36-12 RGS High Wycombe – Round 2 late result

South West B is a bit out of kilter with the rest of the tournament as this week they had a second round game to catch up on, Dean Close beating RGS High Wycombe 36-12 to set up a third round tie at Sir Thomas Rich’s. The winner of that game will be hosting Marlborough College in the regional final though after the Wiltshere side enjoyed an impressive 38-3 victory over Downside on Wednesday.
