Schools Rugby Midweek Preview: A huge midweek ahead, with Friday looking exciting too

There is a busy week of rugby ahead of us with some fantastic match ups right through the week including some really exciting floodlit fixtures.

 

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday all have some massive games of rugby and should provide plenty of entertainment too. With Schools Cup, Plate, Vase, and Bowl fixtures happening too (you can view our preview of those games here: Knockout Preview), the week should be a big one.

 

Tuesday

 

There is a massive game in the Scottish Schools Cup as Merchiston Castle travel to George Heriot’s looking to bounce back straight away from a close defeat to their big rivals George Watson’s on Saturday. There is another big game in Scotland as Stewart’s Melville host Fettes College. Meanwhile there is a big game in Wales too as Monmouth host Christ College Brecon.

 

Wednesday

 

There are a couple of massive games on 4G pitches under lights on Wednesday night. At Allianz Park Berkhamsted host Oakham in what ought to be a huge game of schools rugby. Meanwhile on the other side of London at Rosslyn Park, Mill Hill and Emanuel will go head to head at The Rock.

There are massive games elsewhere too, in the Cheshire Cup Wilmslow High School host King’s Macclesfield in what should be a really big games of rugby.

 

Elsewhere Prince Henry’s travel to Ashville College and Aylesbury Grammar host Lord Williams’, meanwhile Tiffin host Gordon’s and Old Swinford Hospital travel to St Peter’s Gloucester.

 

In the South East in form Hayes are at home to Maidstone Grammar, while Duke of York’s Royal Military School host Oakwood Park. Steyning Grammar meanwhile welcome Sussex Downs, with Sir Roger Manwood’s at home to Kent College, and Simon Langton welcoming St Lawrence College.

 

Over in Shrewsbury there is a big derby as Shrewsbury School travel to Shrewsbury 6th form College. There is a cracking game in Wales too as Llandovery College, who looked good against Millfield last week, host Coleg Gwent.

 

KES Five Ways make the trip to KES Aston, while Pangbourne travel to LVS Ascot. Pangbourne’s rivals The Oratory are also in action, at home to Leighton Park. Meanwhile back around London QES Barnet host UCS, Harris City Academy travel to Robert Clack, and Royal Alexandra & Albert host Glyn.

 

The North, meanwhile, sees Rossall host Bolton and QES Kirkby Lonsdale make the trip to QEGS Penrith.

 

Thursday

 

Marlborough College will be looking to bounce back from a narrow defeat to Radley on Saturday when they welcome Beechen Cliff on Thursday. The Leys have enjoyed a decent season, they have a long away trip to Queen’s College Taunton on Thursday and will be itching to return home with a win.

Leicester Grammar meanwhile host Trent College, while Worth are at home to Bethany, and Dame Alice Owens welcome Rickmansworth.

 

Friday

 

It is one of the busiest Fridays of the season this week, one major highlight will be Kirkham Grammar School’s trip to Harrow, a massive game between two of the top sides in the country over the past couple of years.

There is an absolutely massive game at Wymondham RFC on Friday too as Langley, the current Vase holders, take on the unbeaten Norwich, in a huge Norfolk derby. There is a big Suffolk derby too as Ipswich host Woodbridge, while unbeaten Eltham College also head to East Anglia to take on New Hall.

 

Beckenham RFC hosts St Olave’s Grammar v Langley Park, which ought to be a cracker. Meanwhile Merchant Taylors’ ‘rugby week’ is rounded off with their game against Reading Blue Coat. Shiplake College and St Benedict’s are also in action in a massive game on Friday, while at Cardiff Met Uni Hereford Cathedral School and Llandaff Cathedral School both meet.
