This week saw some fantastic games of rugby including one absolutely vital knockout clash.
Seaford College hosted Marlborough College in the delayed U18 Schools Cup quarter final after Marlborough’s last 16 tie against Dean Close had been forced to be played just last week.
The two sides knew who they would be facing at Allianz Park in the semi final on the 9th March should they have won, Whitgift. The Croydon side beat Ivybridge Community College in their quarter final last week.
As it was, a cracking game of rugby ensued, with both sides contributing enormously to what was a fantastic occasion and a brilliant game. Marlborough College just edged it, perhaps that extra competitive practice against Dean Close last week helping to make the difference, and they now take on Whitgift in six weeks time. Back to back champions Warwick face Woodhouse Grove in the other semi final.
Elsewhere Hayes, who have a Schools Vase semi final on the same day, kept their stunning season going with a 20-12 win over Maidstone Grammar, while St Benedict’s 2nd XV did themselves proud with a 15-0 victory at Haberdashers’.
Staying in the South East, Simon Langton enjoyed a 19-12 win against Langley Park, while Robert Clack were 35-19 victors at KEGS Chelmsford.
Millfield hosted Welsh opposition in the form of Coleg y Cymoedd and it was the Welshmen that came away with the smiles as they put in an excellent performance for a 40-17 victory. Meanwhile in Wales Christ College Brecon defeated Bridgend College 18-12.
Back in England there was a thriller in the North West as Bolton and Liverpool College played out a 26-26 draw, while on Tuesday Repton enjoyed an excellent 45-26 victory at Derby Grammar School.
