Schools Rugby Midweek Preview: Kingston Park clash a highlight in an exciting week

This week sees some fantastic games of schools rugby coming up, one of the last major sets of fixtures before 7s season really kicks in.

 

Wednesday at 6pm will see a great occasion as Austin Friars and Newcastle School for Boys meet at Kingston Park for one of those special occasion in schools rugby that will live with every player for the rest of their lives.

 

There are some other exciting fixtures in the North region, Birkenhead hosting Oswestry, the excellent Hymers College welcoming Thomas Rotherham College, and Wilmslow High School hosting Queen Ethelburga’s for what should be a really excellent game of rugby.

 

A couple of Anglo-Welsh fixtures grab the attention, in form Sir Thomas Rich’s travel to Welsh giants Llandovery College, while St Peter’s Gloucester make the trip to Ysgol Gyfun Glantaf. Shrewsbury, meanwhile, nip across to face Christ College, Brecon.

 

U18 Schools Cup semi finalist, Whitgift, are in action at Ravens Wood. The semi finalists are in fine form this term and will want to continue that momentum right through to that key game at Allianz Park. So too Hayes in their Vase semi final. Their season continues on Wednesday with a home game against Harris City Academy.

 

Staying in the South East, Brentwood host KEGS Chelmsford, while Cobham International welcome Ibstock Place, Robert Clack travel to Davenant, while North Hertfordshire College are this week’s visitors to Latymer Upper.

 

St Joseph’s College had a surprise defeat to Skinners’ at the weekend and will be keen to bounce back well at Samuel Whitbread on Wednesday, while Simon Langton travel to Maidstone Grammar and Oakwood Park host Beth’s.

 

Glyn’s trip to Tiffin suggests an exciting encounter, while Harrodian head to St James and Steyning host Buckswood.

 

There is a big game under the lights on what looks set to be a cold Friday evening, City of London Freemend’s and Wimbledon College meet for what is sure to be a great game of rugby and an even more memorable occasion.
