Schools Rugby Weekend Roundup: Saturday 19th January

There was some fantastic rugby played across school grounds this weekend as one of the last sets of fixtures before the proper start of the 7s season took place.

There were some really exciting games of rugby, not least a 24-24 draw between Millfield and Welsh Academicals, a fantastic game that drew plenty of praise right across social media.

There was an absolutely cracker on the South Coast as Brighton College beat Campion. Heading into the close of the game Campion were leading, but with the last play Brighton College ran in under the posts for a thrilling 12-10 victory.

In the Midlands Shrewsbury picked up an excellent 36-7 win at Adams Grammar, while Old Swinford Hospital were in great for a 24-5 victory at Bishop Vesey’s. Bablake, meanwhile, went down 43-17 to the Sedbergh 2nd XV.

Chislehurst & Sidcup will be thrilled after a superb 25-15 home victory over John Fisher, while staying in the South East there was a 24-7 away win for St George’s Harpenden at Coopers’ Coborn.

One of the most, if not absolutely the most, highly anticipated games of the weekend was Warwick v Hampton. Both were shorn of players due to the U18 Academy League, but there was still high expectation for this one. What nobody could have expected was quite the stunning manner of victory from Warwick, who were sensational for a 52-0 victory. An incredible result.
