The Seaford College 7s takes place on Sunday, on of the first major school 7s tournaments of the season.

Sixteen sides will gather at Seaford, with the College’s big rivals Hurstpierpoint College the reigning champions. The sixteen are divided into four groups of four, with the top side from each going through to the Cup semi finals.

Meanwhile those finishing second head to the Plate semi finals, third to the Shield semi finals, and those finishing fourth in the groups head to the Bowl semi finals.

Seaford College, as the home side, are in Group 1. In a different format they lost out in the Shield final to Dulwich College last year. Epsom College, meanwhile, won last year’s Bowl, but will be hoping for a Cup challenge from Group 1 this year. Joining those two are Emanuel, and Merchant Taylors’, who won last year’s Vase.

In Group 2 Bishop Wordsworth’s are one of the headline acts, they won last year’s Plate against Haileybury, when the Plate was contested by the two losing Cup semi finalists. Joining them in Group 2 are a strong Portsmouth Grammar School outfit, Trinity, and the Hurstpierpoint College 2nd VII.

Bedford are top seeds in Group 3 after winning the title in 2017 and losing in last year’s final to Hurstpierpoint College. They are joined in their pool by Gordon’s, New Hall, and a Seaford College Headmaster’s VII, who will no doubt play with plenty of ambition.

The reigning champions, Hurstpierpoint College, are in Group 4 and it looks though it is going to be the real group of death. Alongside them are reigning Shield champions Dulwich College, who should be really strong, as well as Sevenoaks and Caterham, who were outstanding through the fifteen-a-side season and should be able to translate much of that to the 7s field.

All in all, it promises to be a brilliant day of 7s to really kickstart the season!
