Schools Rugby Weekend Preview: Saturday 9th February

After a heavily weather impacted weekend last week, this weekend should see a healthy batch of schools rugby fixtures.

There are fifteen-a-side games on Friday and Saturday with the seven-a-side game taking over on Sunday.

Friday

The action begins on Friday night at Grasshoppers RFC as St Benedict’s and Hampton take each other on in the final match of the season for both. It should be an incredibly special night, all the more so as St Benedict’s say goodbye to some players with 30 1^st XV games under their belts, Hampton no doubt will have a few in the same boat.

Saturday

Saturday sees some big games, biggest of all perhaps is the trip of Whitgift to St Joseph’s College, a game that has become a bit of a grudge match. Whtigift are in flying form and looking to keep it that way ahead of the Cup semi, while St Jo’s will be keen to bounce back after defeat in midweek.

Another big one is the trip of Lancaster RGS to St Ambrose College, two sides that have played some lovely rugby this season, while King’s Macclesfield, also looking good, host Adams Grammar.

Sir Thomas Rich’s v Old Swinford Hospital is a clash of two sides that are bang in form, while Loughborough welcome King Henry VIII Coventry for what should be a good game.

In Scotland Morrison’s Academy host Linlithgow Academy, meanwhile back in England Shrewsbury host Oswestry.

There are some big tournaments on Sunday as the South West 7s, at Taunton School, Lord Wandsworth College 7s, Uppingham 7s, and Durham’s Bain 10s all take place.

Unfortunately at the time of writing the South West 7s is the only tournament to have announced its draw publically, and you can see our preview here: South West 7s.

Regardless though, with the weather interrupting last week’s 7s so much, every tournament will be of massive importance for each school involved as preparations for the Rosslyn Park HSBC National School 7s ramp up.
